Jeff High offers NHS membership for junior and senior years.
Applications
In the fall, qualifying juniors receive an email with a link to an application. If they choose to apply, and if they are accepted by our faculty council of teachers from different departments, they can start attending meetings and events. The process focuses on NHS’s four pillars: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Students need a 3.5 GPA, clean discipline record, and a personal or professional reference.
Meetings
The NHS holds a monthly meeting for all members, usually the first Thursday of the month.
Events
This year we have a blood drive in October, and another in the spring. When the school receives a request for volunteers for a charity run, food drive, etc., we ask the NHS. Any member can propose new ideas, as well.
Ceremony
At the end of the year we hold a ceremony: juniors walk across the stage and receive certificates, seniors receive graduation cords, and officers receive graduation stoles.
Transfer
If you were an NHS member at another school, you can have that school’s NHS sponsor send us your information and we’ll accept your membership here.
Note
We are not affiliated with the “National Society of High School Scholars” or any other similarly-named organization.
